Nature Explorers Club

Local Folks: Starting next week, I will be leading two different 8-week nature programs at The Orchard School in Alstead, NH. The parent-child program begins March 1, and the homeschool program begins March 3. Registration is still open. Contact The Orchard School to register.

The programs will focus on exploring and learning about nature. We will spend our time outside, on the trails of The Orchard School. Children will have the opportunity to observe, investigate, and make discoveries about different nature themes related to the natural rhythm of the seasons. The Nature Explorers Club is a wonderful way for children in the Monadnock region to spend time outdoors and connect with the natural world.

Edublog Awards Finalist

I’m popping in briefly to share that this little blog of mine has been nominated and is a finalist in three categories for the 2015 Edublog Awards: Best New Blog, Best Teacher Blog, and Best Individual Blog. I am shocked and thrilled and humbled all at the same time. I started this blog as a way to share my ideas and experience with nature-based education. I wanted a place to invest my passion for connecting kids to the natural world while still offering meaningful learning opportunities, and Backyard Learning is what I dreamed up. I never imagined it would achieve the reach that it already has. It means so much to me that people are interested in my work and my ideas.

Voting for the awards is happening now, and runs through December 16. You can vote once per day per category. Here is the link for voting:

Thank you so much for your support! And stay tuned, I’ve got some great lessons and activities I’m putting together for this month’s theme of Winter and the Solstice.
