I am always looking for new ways to connect with people and inspire others to spend time in and learn about nature. Please contact me if you are interested in any of the opportunities described below.
Teaching, Worskshops, and Consultation
I am a licensed middle school science teacher, with a Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction. I have worked in the field of education for 15 years, with the majority of that time being focused on nature education. I have several years experience as an outdoor educator in various settings from outdoor learning centers to farm-based education and school garden programs. Additionally, I spent time as a public school classroom teacher. I also have experience facilitating parent-child and homeschool nature programs. If you are in New Hampshire, Vermont, or Massachusetts, I am happy to talk about arranging a nature program or developing a workshop for nature educators.
I am always interested in freelance writing opportunities. In addition to regular blog posts for this site, Backyard Learning, I am a contributing blogger with BAM Radio Network’s EdWords Blog. As I do on this site, there I share ideas for connecting children with nature and encouraging learning opportunities in an outdoor setting. I love sharing my knowledge and experience about outdoor learning and place-based learning in a variety of formats. I am also a contributing blogger for Mother Earth News, where I share ideas and resources about gardening, raising livestock, and simple living based on my family’s experience running our small farm. I appreciate new challenges, and always enjoy the research process for learning and writing about new topics.
I am passionate about connecting readers with brands that will help children spend time in and learn from nature, as well as brands that will encourage children and families to explore the great outdoors. The Backyard Learning community is a growing group of parents, teachers, and outdoor educators all with a passion for helping children learn from and develop an appreciation for their natural environment. We are interested in hiking, gardening, outdoor exploring and adventuring, and learning from nature in any type of weather. Sponsorship can be arranged flexibly. A sponsor can choose to have a featured sponsored ad space on the sidebar of the Backyard Learning page, for a monthly fee. Sponors can offer items for featured giveaways. And, sponsors can elect to have a featured post as a promotion for their product. In addition to the visibility on the blog, I will share sponsor information regularly through my social media outlets: facebook, twitter, instagram, and pinterest.
If you are interested in connecting with me in any of these ways, please do not hesitate to contact me. I would love to talk.
